Job summary

GATX Corporation is seeking a Locomotive Technician 1 to assist in maintenance, repair, and inspection of GATX-owned locomotives. You will ensure accurate work order data for customer billing and adhere to FRA and DOT safety requirements.

Partners with managers to maintain certifications and progress toward Locomotive Technician 2, with flexibility for travel within the Gulf Coast region and on-call work as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to pass DOT physical and obtain TWIC.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred.
• English communication skills required.
• Welding and mechanical/electrical aptitude preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist Locomotive Technicians in scheduled and on-demand maintenance, repair and inspection of locomotives.
• Follow safety rules and wear PPE; operate tools and equipment safely.
• Read and interpret policies, procedures, and FRA/DOT regulations.
• Perform minor preventative maintenance and prepare surfaces for painting.
• Contribute to customer service and accurate work order documentation.
• Support clerical tasks to ensure timely customer billing.
