Job summary

GATX is seeking a Locomotive Technician 1 to assist in maintenance, repair and inspection of GATX-owned locomotives. You will ensure work orders are complete for billing, follow safety rules, and work with the team to advance toward Locomotive Technician 2.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma, a valid driver's license (CDL preferred), TWIC or ability to obtain, and the ability to pass a DOT physical.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Broad mechanical and electrical aptitude required.
• Ability to pass a DOT mandated physical required.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

• 70% of time spent on Locomotive Service and Repairs, assisting with scheduled and on-demand maintenance and inspections of GATX-owned locomotives.
• Reads and interprets policies, procedures and regulations.
• Performs inspections, repairs and component replacements.
• Cleans, prepares surfaces for painting and performs air/brake tests.
• Performs minor preventative maintenance and maintains clean work areas.
