Job summary

GATX is seeking a Locomotive Technician 2 in La Porte, TX. The role focuses on scheduled and on-demand maintenance of GATX-owned locomotives, ensuring safety rules and FRA regulations are followed, and collaborating with site management to keep certifications current.

Opportunities exist to advance to Technician 3. Responsibilities include locomotive service, repairs, inspections, and adherence to invoicing and work-order procedures.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• TWIC credential required or ability to obtain.
• DOT mandated physical required.
• English communication skills required.
• 2+ years locomotive repair experience or equivalent.
• Background in EMD locomotive repair.
• Strong knowledge of locomotive mechanical and electrical systems.
• Ability to perform non-structural welds.

Responsibilities

• 70% time on Locomotive Service and Repairs including mechanical and electrical running repairs.
• 10% on Customer Support to meet customer expectations.
• 10% on Clerical to ensure invoices and work orders are complete.
• 10% on Other Responsibilities maintaining certifications and safety trainings.
