Job summary

Progress Rail, a Caterpillar Company, is seeking a skilled technician in Kansas City to oversee troubleshooting and repair of locomotive mechanical and electrical systems. You will work directly with customers and their staff, applying practical problem-solving and initiative with a broad scope for independent action.

The role requires an associate degree or equivalent experience, with a preference for a BS in mechanical or electrical engineering and the ability to read engineering drawings.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or equivalent experience is required.
• BSME or BSEE Degree is preferred.
• Medium level of oral and written communications skills.
• Medium level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with customers and workforce.
• Medium level of analytical ability where problems are complex.
• Ability to read engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

• Represent Progress Rail Locomotive Inc. regarding product service difficulties and corrections.
• Provide technical advice to customers regarding facilities, tooling, maintenance practices, and operation of product to maximize reliability and performance.
• Assist customers with investigating and correcting product difficulties.
• Monitor equipment performance and provide reports and recommendations for technical problem solutions.
• Maintain safe practices and good housekeeping.
• Train and develop new employees (hourly and salaried).
• Maintain records on work and modifications performed, analyze data and report results.
• Ensure all governmental agency inspection requirements are documented.
