Job summary

Norfolk Southern Corp. seeks a Mechanical Supervisor to oversee locomotive and car repair quality, coordinating with the control center to optimize shop and train movements. The role includes training subordinates and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations.

The ideal candidate has 1–2 years of related experience with a preference for 3–5 years, and a High School Diploma/GED, with Engineering studies considered a plus. Shift work and on-site responsibilities apply.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years minimum work experience
• Preferred: 3–5 years of related experience
• High School Diploma/GED (BS) and Engineering related education preferred

Responsibilities

• Monitors quality of repair to locomotives and/or cars to assure high reliability of fleet.
• Works with control center on scheduling of locomotives in and out of shop and all train movements to minimize delays.
• Provides training to subordinates.
• Ensures all procedures and instructions relating to environmental matters are adhered to by employees.
• Ensures quality issues are addressed and that work performed at all locations is in accordance with requirements.
• Ensures employees carry out this work within Federal, State, and Corporate Safety Regulations.
• Keeps records of locomotive and/or car work performed on their shift and makes recommendations for improvements in procedure, shop equipment, or facilities.
