Job summary

Cando Rail & Terminals is seeking a Locomotive Engineer/Conductor in Ferndale, WA to provide safe and efficient rail car switching services in a fast-paced, customer-oriented environment.

The role requires teamwork, physical fitness, and the ability to follow switching rules, perform inspections, and communicate effectively. A strong safety mindset and willingness to participate in ongoing training are essential.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read and write general documentation including safety briefings and switching lists.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including pulling/standing for long periods and handling air hoses.
• GCOR/FRA/TWIC certifications, a valid state driver’s license, and safety medical status preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe operation of locomotive and train movements, including daily job briefings.
• Operate switches, derails, and perform rail car switching maneuvers with a team.
• Provide protection of train, track, and equipment.
• Perform inspections on plant and equipment, including air brake tests.
• Comply with operating rules, procedures, and customer requirements for safety.
• Keep locomotive interior clean and maintain daily reports/logs.
