Job summary

Norfolk Southern is seeking an entry‑level Locomotive Electrician Trainee to join a seniority‑based union team. The role trains you to inspect, repair and install locomotive electrical systems, with hands‑on shop and field instruction.

Expect shift work, nights, weekends and holidays, plus travel for training and mandatory union alignment. Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and be able to pass medical and drug screenings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to pass pre‑employment drug and alcohol screening and physical standards.
• Two years electrician experience and/or completion of electrical vocational program preferred.
• Journeyman certification and blueprint reading experience are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with railroad rules, safety regulations, and federal standards.
• Wire, maintain, repair, rebuild, inspect, and install electrical equipment.
• Read electrical prints and test circuits using diagnostic tools.
• Diagnose and repair electrical malfunctions and high/low voltage issues.
• Maintain safety and wear required protective equipment.
