Job summary

Missouri Department of Corrections is seeking a skilled locksmith to install, maintain, and repair locking systems across facilities. The role requires on-the-job trade experience, or completion of a technical program, or certification in a relevant field, with emphasis on security and safety.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older with four or more years of on-the-job training in a trade area, or completion of a relevant technical program, or certification in a relevant field.
• All requested documents MUST be received by the closing date listed.
• Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive: a $2.00 per hour shift differential if assigned to a shift that begins between 12:00pm and 5:00am at a 24/7 facility; a $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential for regular posts in a restrict housing unit.
• The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!

Responsibilities

• Installs, maintains, and repairs locking systems; checks for proper operation of locking devices; disassembles padlocks/safe locks/door locks; repairs or replaces worn pins/springs/other parts; adjusts pin length; inserts new or repaired pins into locks to change combination; fabricates new or duplicate keys using key cutting machine.
• Prepares and maintains a file of installed locks and a list of doors that are keyed together or separately; prepares and maintains a list of personnel assigned keys to facility locks; maintains equipment/supply inventory.
• Performs work under the general direction of a designated supervisor and performs other related work as assigned.

The annual salary listed for this position includes the additional $0.75 per hour medium security differential ($1,560 annually) for all full-time positions domiciled in a medium-security institution.

• A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
• A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.
