Job summary

The annual salary listed for this position includes the additional $0.75 per hour medium security differential ($1,560 annually) for all full-time positions domiciled in a medium-security institution.   • This is an entry‑level position accountable for performing basic manual maintenance tasks that can be learned with short on‑the‑job training. Tasks performed require use of basic hand tools and operation of equipment (e.g., mowers, forklifts, string trimmers, or light fleet such as utility terrain vehicles). Employee may oversee offender workers engaged in related activities and receives supervision from a designated supervisor.
  • Employee performs routine maintenance: painting building surfaces and equipment; patch plastering walls; carpentry work on such items as furniture, doors, windows, shelves, and floors; plumbing work such as unstopping toilets and drains; replacing faucets/valves/washers; repairing water line leaks; replacing light bulbs/outlets/switches; and limited repairs of electrical motors/generators/communication equipment.
  • Employee should be knowledgeable in the operation, maintenance, and safety practices of maintenance tools, equipment, and vehicles. The employee must have the ability to lift and carry heavy objects, bend, reach, and climb a ladder, the ability to provide and follow directions; the ability to apply technical manual, and the ability to work in varying weather conditions and traverse over rugged terrain.
Minimum Qualifications

Must be 18 years or older, with one or more years of experience relevant/similar to the listed job functions, or completion of a relevant technical training program, or job certification. All requested documents MUST be received by the closing date listed.

Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:
  • A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
  • A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!
