Job summary

Missouri Department of Corrections is hiring forCorrectional Officer roles in Missouri. The position involves maintaining security across correctional posts, supervising offenders, and enforcing rules. A background check is required, with training in Defensive Tactics and First Aid/CPR during Basic Training.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains security in buildings/towers/other posts of an adult correctional facility; intervenes during emergencies or altercations and gains physical control of offenders.
  • Supervises movement of offenders inside/outside the correctional facility; conducts periodic counts of offenders; searches offenders and their living quarters for contraband; Escorts/transports offenders to predetermined locations.
  • Supervises offenders: in housing units; during the performance of work activities; during recreational/ religious activities.
  • Conducts inspections for health and safety hazards; prepares/submits reports on offender violations...
  • Discusses minor adjustment problems with offenders; refers serious problems to proper correctional facility staff; promotes rehabilitation by attempting to modify offender’s social attitudes/discouraging undesirable behaviors/encouraging worthwhile activities.
  • Supervises visits with offenders; searches visitors/offenders/buildings/grounds for contraband
  • Performs work in accordance with established rules/regulations/post orders/specific instructions; receives general administrative direction
  • Performs other related work as assigned

The annual salary listed for this position includes the additional $0.75 per hour medium security differential ($1,560 annually) for all full-time positions domiciled in a medium-security institution.

Hourly Pay: $21.45 (medium security differential included)

  • Supervises visits with offenders; searches visitors/offenders/buildings/grounds for contraband
  • Performs work in accordance with established rules/regulations/post orders/specific instructions; receives general administrative direction
  • Performs other related work as assigned

Special Requirements:

  1. Ability to pass a background investigation administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
  2. Ability to complete Defensive Tactics and Standard First Aid\CPR training during Basic Training administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.

By assignment, a position may require:

  1. Ability to complete and maintain firearms certification training administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
  2. Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license.

Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:

  • A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
  • A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!
