Job summary

NC State University seeks a Locksmith I to help keep campus buildings secure and operational in Raleigh, NC. The role provides hands-on experience in installing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of security hardware, working alongside experienced locksmiths.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, basic tooling knowledge, and the ability to learn locksmith equipment; on-the-job training and safety standards apply across campus facilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; substitutions allowed with related experience.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills are essential.
• Basic knowledge of tools and mechanical background required.
• Some experience with door hardware and installation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, and maintain mechanical security hardware (locks, closers, exit devices).
• Cut keys by duplication and code; assist with keying and core changes.
• Perform preventative maintenance on locking systems for reliability.
• Assist senior locksmiths with installations and master key system work.
