Position Overview

Responsible for installing, repairing, rekeying, and maintaining all locks on campus.

Job Duties
  • Maintains, repairs, removes, and installs cores and locks in all university buildings, including entry dead bolts, combination locks, and desk and file cabinet locks.
  • Installs and/or repairs panic bars on all campus buildings and repairs and adjusts door closers.
  • Maintains and operates key‑cutting machines.
  • Cuts and issues keys for all buildings, offices, dorm rooms, vehicles, file cabinets, and desks.
  • Keeps a record of issued keys and searches the key data system to identify key holders and assigned keys.
  • Maintains a key catalog system for all campus buildings.
  • Identifies lost keys and returns them to the appropriate department.
  • Installs security plates.
  • Keeps and updates keys for university vehicles and loan vehicles.
  • Checks all locks in new buildings to ensure correct operation.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance.
  • Works a variety of schedules and is required to be on call.
  • Required to carry a cell phone.
  • Complies with all state and university policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Must possess mechanical knowledge of lock/key equipment and systems.
  • Experience cutting keys.
  • Experience auditing and maintaining inventory.
  • Must be available and willing to work after‑hours on‑call duty on a rotating basis with other shop personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one (1) year of professional experience in this trade.
  • Experience in higher education and/or government.
  • Proficiency using e‑mail and portable electronic communication devices.
  • Experience using AiM (AssetWorks).
Additional Information to Applicants
  • Normal workdays are Tuesday through Saturday.
  • Must be able to work on call on a rotating basis with other shop personnel.
  • This position requires driving University vehicles.
  • Second position / alternate schedule available.
