Job summary

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum of three (3) years of directly related locksmith experience.
• Valid Texas driver’s license.
• All UH positions are security sensitive and require a criminal history check.

Responsibilities

• Assist supervisor in developing work schedules, conducting performance reviews, and interviewing job applicants.
• Provide technical direction to locksmiths and helpers.
• Perform the duties of a locksmith as needed.
• Assist supervisor in overall supervision of the shop and act as supervisor during absences.
• Operate equipment and tools such as key cutting and engraving machines, power tools, and computers.
• Fabricate parts for locks, door closures, and hardware as needed.
• Serve on special task forces during emergencies such as floods, storms, or hurricanes.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Description

Under general direction from a supervisor, this role leads employees engaged in the maintenance, repair, and installation of door hardware, keys, and locks. In accordance with the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA‑48, the position involves research, work, or access to critical infrastructure and requires maintaining the security or integrity of university infrastructure. Routine reviews determine if criminal history or connections to foreign adversaries would prevent the employee from maintaining this security.

Responsibilities

• Assist supervisor in developing work schedules, conducting performance reviews, and interviewing job applicants.
• Provide technical direction to locksmiths and locksmith helpers.
• Perform the duties of a locksmith as needed.
• Assist supervisor in overall supervision of the shop and act as supervisor during absences.
• Operate all necessary equipment and tools such as key cutting machine, engraving machine, power tools, and computers.
• Fabricate parts not available for locks, door closures, and other hardware as needed.
• Serve on special task forces during emergencies such as floods, storms, or hurricanes.
• Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required. Department is willing to accept education in lieu of experience. Minimum of three (3) years of directly related experience required. Valid Texas driver's license required. All positions at the University of Houston‑System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check. Requires a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple mathematical functions such as percentages and ratios, as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or GED. Education verification will be conducted upon acceptance of an employment offer.
