Job summary

ABB's Manufacturing Unit seeks a Procurement Engineer to bridge Engineering and Procurement for R&D projects. You will coordinate activities, translate engineering requests into procurement parameters, and help deliver cost and quality targets.

You will work with local procurement teams and division Category Managers to identify new suppliers, manage prototype orders, and support gate meetings. A Bachelor’s in engineering and 3–6 years of related experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 3–6 years in Procurement, Supply Chain, Engineering, Product Development, or R&D support.
  • Experience coordinating with engineering teams and suppliers.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and ERP systems (Oracle).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all procurement activities for R&D projects.
  • Interface between the technology project team, local division Procurement teams, and division Procurement Category Managers.
  • Lead procurement gate meetings and maintain project-related procurement documents.
  • Estimate initial cost and quality, and achieve product cost and quality targets.
  • Optimize cost and quality at all development stages.
  • Identify new potential materials or suppliers with procurement teams and manage prototype/material supplier selection.

Drives procurement knowledge (market, suppliers, external intelligence) into the development process to optimize engineering cost, quality, and technology. Translates engineering requests into procurement parameters for execution.Core responsibilities:Coordinates all procurement activities for Research and Development (R&D) projects.Acts as interface between the technology project team, local division Procurement teams, and division Procurement Category Managers, ensuring that project information is adequately shared between the project team and the various Procurement teams.Responsible for procurement Gate Model activities, arranging project procurement gate meetings as required, and creating and maintaining the project related to procurement documents.Responsible for estimating initial cost and quality, and achieving product cost and quality targets.Works to optimize cost and quality at all stages of the development projects, including investment and test cost.Works with local Procurement team and division Category Managers to find new potential materials or new potential suppliers for critical materials.Selects, with the support of local Procurement team and division Category Managers, the prototype suppliers and final production material suppliers, in line with product cost requirements, future product footprint requirements, and procurement strategies, while ensuring sustainable quality and cost.Manages the ordering and on-time delivery of the prototype parts directly with the suppliers for each project, in alignment with the critical project development and testing plan.Supports the development of new lower cost suppliers to meet the level required for sustainable quality and on-time delivery.Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Materials Science, or related)3-6 years of relevant experience in Procurement, Supply Chain, Engineering, Product Development, R&D support, Supplier Quality, or Project ManagementPC knowledge.
