Job summary

Staffmark is hiring for a Yard Hostler in Carson, CA. The role uses a yard goat to move trailers between docks, with a focus on safety and efficiency. Local, hands-on driving keeps freight moving and requires strong communication with dispatch and warehouse staff.

Pay is $31.00 per hour, schedule Monday-Friday 2pm–11:30pm with occasional Saturdays. CDL Class A, medical card, and DOT knowledge are essential for this position.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A CDL with a safe driving record.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations, Hours of Service requirements, and vehicle safety procedures.
• Ability to perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete required documentation.
• Experience safely operating tractor-trailers in a professional environment.
• Strong communication skills, time management, and commitment to customer service.
• 22 years of age or older
• Valid Class A license
• Valid Medical Card
• 1 year or more Class A Yard Hostling experience within the last 3 years.
• Driver may not exceed any combination of 3 moving violations and/or preventable accidents on their MVR in the past 36 months.
• NO DUI'S / DWI'S in the past 5 years
• NO Reckless Driving in the past 5 years

Responsibilities

• Yard hostlers will drive and maneuver yard goat & trailers from dock to dock switching out empty trailers with full trailers to keep production moving.
• Safety is always the key, so driver must be safety minded, perform pre and post trips daily, chock rear wheels
• Be aware of safety hazards in all weather conditions, and check trailers before pulling away from the dock doors.
• Ability to work in fast paced environment, moving approximately 60+ moves per shift, with a VERY tight yard
• Driver must have strong communication skills as they will be interacting and taking direction from dispatchers, or warehouse managers on a consistent basis through radio and on board computer system.
