Job summary

The City of Saint Paul is seeking a Loan Specialist I to assist residents with home loan programs, review applications, and coordinate loan documentation through closing.

You will work directly with applicants to explain requirements and guide them through the process, maintaining detailed loan records and supporting program administration.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; fifteen college credits in real estate, housing, or financial management acceptable toward an associate degree.
• Minimum of one year experience as a Loan Assistant or loan officer in a bank or lending agency; additional year replaces with five credits.
• Valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent out-of-state license.

Responsibilities

• Explain loan programs, eligibility requirements, and next steps clearly to applicants.
• Prepare and coordinate loan packages, including reviewing documents and submitting for approval.

The City of Saint Paul’s Planning and Economic Development department is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused professional to join our team as a Loan Specialist I. In this role, you’ll help residents navigate home loan programs by reviewing applications, explaining program requirements, coordinating loan documentation, and supporting loans through closing. • Coordinate loan closings and documentation, ensuring completed loans and home mortgages are accurately transmitted to the appropriate agencies.

Must have one (1) year of experience as a Loan Assistant or equivalent or as a loan officer in a bank or lending agency. Each additional year of qualifying experience may be substituted for five (5) college semester credits.

Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License, or equivalent out-of-state driver's license.

Assessment: Qualifications Rating

The Qualifications Rating is an assessment of your completed application and answers to the Supplemental Questionnaire. Be as specific and detailed as possible in completing your application and questionnaire. You must submit your completed application and supplemental questionnaire by the application deadline.

Promotion Only Job Posting: This posting is open to current City of Saint Paul employees who meet the Civil Service promotion rule, which includes two years certified service. The promotion eligible list is ranked. Those who pass the assessment will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months.

Promotion Final Selection Process: You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire based on civil service rules. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.

Pre-Employment Screening:

This position requires a driver’s license check and a background check which may include criminal history, and employment history as a condition of employment. Candidates will be required to submit proof of education to Human Resources upon conditional job offer, if qualifying with education.
