Job summary

NC State University Extension in Surry County seeks an Agriculture – Livestock and Forages Agent to lead research-based programming for local producers. The role emphasizes livestock production, pasture management, nutrition, and waste systems, with outreach to 4-H and youth livestock activities.

The agent will engage farms through farm visits, develop partnerships, and build capacity by leveraging community resources.

Qualifications

• The candidate must have animal science and livestock production knowledge and strong communication skills.
• Experience or training in livestock management, pasture management, and animal nutrition is preferred.
• Ability to engage with farm audiences and build partnerships within the community.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement educational programs for county agriculture in livestock, pasture, nutrition, waste management, pond management, and youth livestock programs.
• Assess and respond to clientele needs; evaluate program impact regularly.
• Collaborate with other Extension programs, staff, and community organizations to reach audiences.
• Network with agents, specialists, and local producers to plan field days and educational programs.
• Promote agricultural programs within the county.
