Orange County Apostille helps individuals, attorneys, and businesses get documents notarized, authenticated, and apostilled for use at home and abroad. We're hiring a Livescan Operator to run fingerprinting services at our Irvine office and at client locations throughout Orange County and the surrounding area.
This is a client-facing role. Applicants come to us for employment, licensing, immigration, and visa clearances - often on a deadline and often nervous about the process. You'll be the person who makes it quick, accurate, and painless. When the client can't come to us, you'll load the mobile kit and go to them: law firms, care facilities, job sites, schools, and corporate onboarding events.
What You'll Do
- Capture rolled and flat fingerprints using Livescan equipment for DOJ, FBI, and out-of-state background checks
- Verify applicant identity against valid government-issued ID and confirm Request for Live Scan Service (BCIA 8016) forms are complete and accurate before transmission
- Select the correct ORI, application type, and billing codes so submissions aren't rejected - accuracy here is the core of the job
- Transmit submissions electronically and troubleshoot rejections, retransmissions, and low-quality prints
- Roll ink fingerprint cards (FD-258 and equivalents) for FBI Identity History Summary requests, foreign clearances, and agencies that don't accept electronic submissions
- Run mobile and on-site fingerprinting appointments - transport, set up, calibrate, and break down equipment at client sites across Orange County, LA, Riverside, and San Diego counties
- Schedule appointments, take payment, issue receipts, and follow up on pending results
- Support the front desk during slower periods: intake for notary, apostille, and document authentication orders, scanning and filing, and answering client questions about turnaround times
- Maintain the confidentiality and security of applicant data and fingerprint records in line with DOJ requirements
- Keep equipment clean, calibrated, and supplied; log service issues and coordinate vendor support
- Maintain accurate daily transaction logs and reconcile against payments
What You Need
- Current California DOJ Certified Fingerprint Roller certification (Penal Code § 11102.1) - or the ability to obtain it before your start date; we'll walk you through the process
- At least 18 years old and a legal resident of California
- Ability to pass a DOJ and FBI background check - felony convictions and convictions involving dishonesty or moral turpitude are disqualifying under the certification program
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid California driver's license, a reliable insured vehicle, and a clean driving record (required for mobile appointments)
- Comfort with computers: Livescan software, scheduling tools, email, and basic Microsoft Office / Google Workspace
- Careful attention to detail and the patience to double-check forms before submitting
- Professional, calm, and welcoming manner with clients who may be stressed or unfamiliar with the process
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift and carry up to 30 lbs of mobile equipment
Nice to Have
- 1+ year of prior Livescan, fingerprinting, or background-screening experience
- Active California Notary Public commission (or willingness to become commissioned - we'll sponsor it)
- Familiarity with apostille, authentication, or Secretary of State document processing
- Bilingual - Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, Farsi, or Mandarin is a real advantage with our client base
- Experience in a high-volume front-office, retail, or appointment-based service environment
Schedule & Location
Full-time, on-site at our Irvine office, Monday through Friday during business hours, with occasional Saturday or early-morning mobile appointments to accommodate client events. Reliable, on-time attendance matters - clients book fixed appointment windows.
