Job summary

Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD is seeking a Residence Hall Director, a full-time, twelve-month live-in administrator in the Department of Residence Life. The role supervises one residence hall serving 250 to 450 students, with responsibilities spanning staff supervision, housing operations, programming, and crisis support.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated understanding of student development theory and its application in residential settings.
• Ability to articulate the purpose and value of the residential experience to students and families.
• Experience with crisis intervention, conflict management, and community engagement.
• Strong written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.
• Knowledge of program evaluation and assessment of learning outcomes.
• Ability to create communities welcoming and belonging.

Responsibilities

• Directly supervise 6–10 undergraduate student staff members.
• Manage processes for check-in/check-out, room changes, key administration, and facility needs reporting.
• Facilitate roommate mediation and serve as a resource for personal and interpersonal concerns.
• Oversee hall programming initiatives related to academics, wellness, diversity, service, vocation, community development, and leadership.
• Manage a programming budget effectively (if applicable).
• Partner with the Director of Student Conduct regarding student behavior concerns.
• Serve in the on‑call rotation supporting the broader Residential Education program.
• Assess student needs, provide immediate support, and refer to appropriate campus resources.
• Contribute to department‑wide initiatives, assessment, and committee work.
