Job summary

Middlebury College in Vermont seeks a Residence Director to oversee an undergraduate residential area of about 500 residents and supervise student staff. The RD lives in campus housing and engages residents year-round to build a safe, strong learning community.

This full-time, benefits-eligible role reports to the Associate Dean of Students for Residential Life and requires on-call availability, crisis response, and commitment to equity and inclusion. A provided apartment is included.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel/Student Affairs, Counseling or related field preferred OR two years of post undergraduate residential life experience.
• Knowledge of current theories, processes and practices related to student affairs and residential education.
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusivity and equity in practice.
• Proficiency in responding to campus emergencies and crises.
• Excellent interpersonal communications skills and conflict mediation.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate hiring, training, and supervision of student staff.
• Oversee and manage assigned undergraduate residential halls and area.
• Triage and provide support and referrals for students, including case management.
• Respond, adjudicate and refer behavior and conduct issues.
• Assist with residential education development and programming.
• Participate in year-round on-call rotation and crisis intervention.
