Job summary

Middlebury College seeks a Residence Director (RD) reporting to the Associate Dean of Students for Residential Life. The RD oversees a residential area of ~500 undergraduates, supervises student staff, and lives in campus housing to engage residents year-round and cultivate a safe, vibrant learning community.

This full-time, benefits-eligible role includes crisis response, on-call rotations, and collaboration with campus partners to advance inclusivity and student development.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel/Student Affairs, Counseling or related field preferred OR two years of post-undergraduate residential life experience.
• Knowledge of student affairs theories and residential education practices.
• Commitment to inclusivity and equitable practices.
• Ability to respond to campus emergencies and crises.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate hiring, training, and supervision of student staff.
• Oversee and manage assigned undergraduate residential halls and area.
• Triage and support referrals for students and case management needs.
• Respond to behavior and conduct issues and adjudicate when needed.
• Assist with residential education development and programming.
• Maintain on-call rotation and live in campus housing.
