Job summary

Morehead State University is seeking a Resident Advisor (RA), a part-time, live-in, institutional work-study position in an MSU residence hall. RAs help create an inclusive community, support students academically and personally, and work with a housing team to foster a positive environment.

The RA role requires 12–15 hours weekly, including meetings, on-call duties, and engagement within the residence community. Applicants must be MSU students in good standing with housing and GPA requirements.

Qualifications

• Attendance and participation for the entirety of pre-semester training, including residence hall opening, prior to the start of each semester and in-service sessions during the semester are required of all Resident Advisors.
• Resident Advisors are responsible for semester-ending closing procedures through the weekend following the last day of semester final examinations.
• Rotating weeknight and weekend on-call rotation during hours when university offices are closed.

Responsibilities

• Builds positive and meaningful relationships with the students in and around their assigned residential community, typically one or more residence hall floors.
• Plans and facilitates activities in the residence hall and/or campus community that encourages social interaction and relationship building among members of the residential community.
• Plans and facilitates activities in and around the residence hall community that allow students to develop knowledge and skills that will help them be successful as members of the MSU community and beyond.
• Develops a sense of community in the residence halls through bulletin boards, door decorations, community communication, and other themes that represent the group.
• Develops inclusive sense of community for students from diverse backgrounds and identities.
• Serves as role models, upholding ethical standards aligned with MSU housing mission and values.
• Educates students about university policies and responds to actions in conflict with policies to reinforce standards.
• Represents the Office of Student Housing with professional demeanor aligned with its mission and values.
• Assists students in resolving conflicts, including roommate mediations and dialogues.
• Knowledgeable about campus resources, serves as a referral for student questions or concerns.
• Acts as first-level responder to emergencies and crisis situations in the residence halls and contacts appropriate staff as needed.
• Attends required meetings, training, residence hall opening, and closing, with active participation.
• Participates in Office of Student Housing committees as needed
