Job summary

American University is seeking a Resident Assistant (RA) for Main Campus in Washington, DC. This part-time, live-in student role supports Housing & Residence Life and reports to the Community Director. The RA assists residents, plans learning opportunities, and coordinates safety checks.

The position runs August through May (10 months). Work is 15 hours weekly with a $375 monthly stipend. Must be enrolled as an undergrad or grad student, carrying the required credits, and maintain GPA thresholds.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled at American University and eligible for student employee status.
• Part-time, 15 hours per week; 10-month live-in position.
• Minimum 12 credits undergraduate; 9 credits graduate per semester; max 17/12 respectively.
• Cumulative GPA ≥ 2.5 and term GPA ≥ 2.5.
• Attend information session by December.

Responsibilities

• Lead community engagement and develop floor learning opportunities.
• Advise residents and connect them to campus resources.
• Complete health and safety inspections at least twice yearly.
• Serve on-call in the on-campus residence for emergencies (nights/weekends).
• Open/close residence halls and support Desk Assistant duties.
• Document incidents with ETIX/Guardian; complete incident reports.
• Attend weekly staff meetings and ongoing training.
