Job summary

American University’s Housing & Residence Life is seeking a part-time Resident Assistant (RA) to support residents, connect them to resources, and foster enriching living environments. The RA reports to the Community Director and collaborates with other staff across campus to implement the Eagle Flight Plan and promote leadership and well-being.

The position requires full-time student enrollment, a minimum GPA, and attendance at an information session.

Qualifications

• Full-time enrollment as undergraduate or graduate student (min 12 credits).
• Cumulative GPA at or above 2.5.
• One semester of full-time undergrad completion by start.
• One semester living on campus at American University.
• All applicants must attend an information session by December.

Responsibilities

• Develop and facilitate floor/community learning and engagement activities.
• On-call participation and emergency response during evenings and weekends.
• Complete Room Inventory Forms, safety inspections, and incident reports.
• Assist with check-ins/checkouts, openings and closings of residence halls.
• Serve 3 hours weekly as a Desk Assistant; may work extra hours at the front desk.
• Balance RA responsibilities with academic commitments and meetings.
