Job summary

Boutique Recruiting is seeking a Litigator to join a California-focused practice that trains in coverage work within a specialized insurance bad faith environment. The role offers real court and deposition experience early under the owner’s direct coaching.

The position is fully remote with a Nevada practice planned once California staffing is achieved. Salary ranges from $150,000 to $225,000 per year DOE, plus discretionary bonuses and a share of monthly client fees you bring in.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of litigation experience with law and motion work.
• Business or commercial litigation experience.
• Strong writing ability; writing samples provided on request.
• Ownership of calendar and reliable follow-through.
• Preferred: experience taking/defending depositions.

Responsibilities

• Handle business and commercial litigation and law and motion work.
• Draft motions, including summary judgment motions, and argue them in court.
• Attend/depose, with training from the team.
• Learn insurance bad faith coverage defense through direct coaching from the owner.
• Work with a partner and owner oversight on assigned cases.
• Prepare cases for trial and assist in trial presentations by partners.
• Prepare and format own work product with paralegal support for filing.
• Manage calendar in Clio and track matters through to completion.
• Bill 2,000+ hours per year.

Job description

Position Title: Litigator

A specialized insurance bad faith practice is building its California team, and it will train a business litigator in coverage work directly under the owner. The practice represents major carrier clients, including relationships that span nearly two decades, and new matters arrive every month across roughly 45 to 50 active bad faith cases. Attorneys who combine insurance coverage knowledge with litigation skill are uncommon, and carriers regularly look to hire them in-house.

The position offers real court and deposition experience early, which larger firms rarely provide. The owner does not rewrite associates' work and acts as a hands‑on coach. The environment operates like a large firm, with hard-working attorneys who bill 2,000 or more hours a year, and merit is rewarded through discretionary bonuses, a possible raise after about three months, and a share of fees on clients the attorney brings in. The role is fully remote, with a Nevada practice planned once California is staffed.

Salary Range: $150,000 - $225,000 / Year DOE

Plus a discretionary merit‑based bonus, and approximately 15% of monthly fees on clients the attorney brings to the firm

Litigator Responsibilities

• Handle business and commercial litigation and law and motion work on the firm's bad faith and commercial cases
• Draft motions, including motions for summary judgment when ready, and argue them in court
• Attend, take, and defend depositions, with training from the team
• Learn insurance bad faith coverage defense through direct training from the firm's owner
• Work on assigned cases alongside one partner, with the owner providing oversight
• Prepare cases for trial, which the owner and a partner try
• Prepare and format your own work product, with a paralegal supporting formatting and filing
• Manage your own calendar in Clio and follow matters through to completion
• Bill 2,000 or more hours per year

Litigator Requirements

• 5 or more years of litigation experience with law and motion work, including drafting motions
• Business or commercial litigation experience
• Active California bar license
• Strong writing ability, with writing samples provided on request
• Ownership of your own calendar and a record of reliable follow-through
• Preferred: Experience taking or defending one or two depositions
• Insurance coverage or bad faith experience is not required
• Trial experience is not required
• Residence in Los Angeles, Orange County, or San Diego is preferred
