• 8+ years of experience as a litigation paralegal or legal secretary, preferably in personal injury or civil litigation.
• Thorough understanding of California civil litigation procedures, deadlines, and filing requirements.

A well-established San Diego law firm is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join our fast-paced civil litigation practice, with a strong emphasis on personal injury and mass tort matters.

The ideal candidate will have extensive civil litigation experience, strong organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to independently manage deadlines and case-related responsibilities while working closely with attorneys and the litigation team.

Position Responsibilities

• Assist attorneys with all phases of civil litigation, including discovery, motions, depositions, arbitrations, and trial preparation.
• Prepare, propound, and respond to discovery, including Interrogatories, Requests for Admission, Requests for Production, and subpoenas.
• Prepare deposition materials, including deposition binders, exhibits, subpoenas, and supporting documents.
• Assist with motion preparation, including supporting documents, exhibits, hearing binders, and filing requirements.
• Manage trial preparation, including coordinating witnesses and travel, preparing trial exhibits, charts, trial notebooks, subpoenas, and page‑line designations.
• Independently obtain, review, organize, and summarize medical records and medical billing.
• Calculate and maintain damages, including medical expenses, lost wages, property damage, and other economic damages.
• Prepare pleadings and other litigation documents.
• Prepare, file, and serve Complaints and related documents in accordance with county and local court requirements.
• Prepare, format, file, and serve legal documents, including pleadings, Notices of Hearing, Notices of Ruling, Notices of Entry, discovery, and other court forms.
• Maintain and manage firm‑wide calendars, including hearings, depositions, discovery deadlines, trial dates, and other critical litigation deadlines.
• Prepare attorneys for hearings and depositions, including arranging conference‑call information, preparing binders, organizing exhibits, and making necessary copies.
• Schedule and coordinate court reporters for depositions, trials, arbitrations, and other proceedings.
• Conduct research regarding Local Rules, Judges' Rules, California Rules of Court (CRC), and California Code of Civil Procedure (CCP).
• Communicate professionally and routinely with clients and attorneys regarding case status, deadlines, and litigation preparation.
• Work collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals, legal secretaries, and other members of the litigation team.
• Maintain organized and accurate electronic and physical case files.
• Handle multiple cases and competing deadlines in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

Position Requirements

• Paralegal certification preferred.
• 8+ years of experience as a litigation paralegal or legal secretary, preferably in personal injury or civil litigation.
• Thorough understanding of California civil litigation procedures, deadlines, and filing requirements.
• Strong knowledge of California Rules of Court, Code of Civil Procedure, and local court rules.
• Experience with state and federal civil litigation deadlines and procedures.
• High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong legal document preparation and formatting skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment.
• Excellent organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
