Job summary

Leidos in downtown Los Angeles is seeking a Paralegal to support the DOJ in LA, performing paralegal duties under supervision. Requires paralegal certificate and at least one year litigation paralegal experience.

Candidates will assist attorneys with discovery, prepare briefs, cite checks, and use Lexis/Westlaw. Familiarity with ESI tools and document management systems is expected; US citizenship is required for clearance.

Qualifications

Paralegal certificate or enrollment in ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study.
At least one year of litigation paralegal experience.
Knowledge of legal citation and ability to perform cite checks.
Experience with Lexis and Westlaw for legal research.
Familiarity with ESI tools and eDiscovery procedures.
U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

Works under the direction of Supervisory Paralegal, Project Supervisor or Direct Report.
Performs tasks while complying with established procedures.
Compiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs and other legal documents.
Summarizes depositions and other transcripts; maintains case files; performs simple legal research; indexes, tracks and controls document discovery (including documents produced and received in discovery).
Indexes, tracks and exhibits and other materials at depositions and at trial.
Prepares exhibit cross-references.
Assists attorneys in courtroom.
Reviews documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines and criteria. Other examples of the work: compilation of documents for FOIA, production requests, Congressional inquiries.
