Job summary

Leidos in downtown Los Angeles, CA, seeks a Paralegal to support the DOJ with discovery, motions, and trial preparations. A paralegal certificate or active ABA‑accredited law school status with one year completed is required, along with one year of litigation paralegal experience.

You will assist attorneys in discovery, summarize transcripts, index documents, and help prepare exhibits for depositions and court proceedings in a fast-paced government setting.

Qualifications

  • Paralegal certificate or currently in ABA-accredited law school with at least one year completed.
  • At least one year of litigation paralegal or project experience.
  • Basic legal knowledge including citation rules and ability to cite motions/memoranda.
  • Proficiency with Lexis and Westlaw.
  • Familiarity with word processing, databases, spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

Overview

The Litigation Support Team at Leidos is supporting the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in Los Angeles, CA, and we have an opening for a Paralegal to work in the downtown Los Angeles, CA DOJ office. This role requires a paralegal certificate and offers the opportunity to contribute to the DOJ’s mission.

Responsibilities
  • Work under the direction of a Supervisory Paralegal, Project Supervisor or Direct Report.
  • Perform tasks in compliance with established procedures.
  • Compile, prepare, and summarize relevant materials for attorneys in discovery and in the preparation of motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
  • Summarize depositions and other transcripts; maintain case files; conduct simple legal research.
  • Index, track, and control document discovery, including documents produced and received.
  • Index, track, and exhibit materials at depositions and trial.
  • Prepare exhibit cross‑references.
  • Assist attorneys in courtroom settings.
  • Review documents for relevance and privilege based on established guidelines.
  • Compile documents for FOIA requests, production requests, congressional inquiries, etc.
Basic Qualifications
  • Requires a paralegal certificate, or be currently attending an ABA‑accredited law school with at least one year of study completed.
  • At least one year of litigation paralegal experience or project experience.
  • Basic legal knowledge, including standard legal citation rules and the ability to cite legal motions and memoranda.
  • Proficiency with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Familiarity with a variety of computer applications: word processing, databases (e.g., document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
  • Basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a government and/or litigation support environment.
  • Trial experience.
  • Experience with Relativity or similar applications.
  • Automated litigation support experience.
  • Current or active clearance.
Pay

The pay for this position will be $24.49/hr. The role is covered under the Service Contract Act and must meet mandatory mand obligation requirements.
