Job summary

Withers is seeking a Litigation Paralegal to support attorneys in the firm’s Dispute Resolution practice in Los Angeles or San Francisco. The role involves proofreading briefs, organizing case files, managing litigation databases and coordinating with clients.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of paralegal experience, familiarity with Westlaw, iManage and Elite, and strong research and writing skills. Travel and overtime may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; a paralegal certificate is preferred.
  • 3–5 years of litigation paralegal experience is expected.
  • Proficient with Word, Excel and Outlook; strong document handling.
  • Experience with eDiscovery platforms and docketing systems is a plus.
  • Strong research, writing and analytical skills with attention to detail.

  • Perform factual research and conduct online research using Westlaw.
  • Maintain calendars and track deadlines in firm systems.
  • Prepare for depositions, conferences and hearings and assist with logistics.
  • Support trials, mediations and arbitrations with exhibits and documents.
  • Provide general support across eDiscovery platforms as needed.
  • Occasional travel to courthouses and agencies for filing or delivery.

Job description

Role

The Litigation Paralegal will support attorneys within the firm’s Dispute Resolution practice located in Los Angeles or San Francisco.

Responsibilities
  • Proofread briefs and conduct legal and factual cite checks.
  • Organise and maintain electronic and hard‑copy case files.
  • Manage data within litigation support databases.
  • Coordinate with partners, associates, other paralegals, and clients to obtain and manage case‑related information.
  • Manage production of hard‑copy and electronic documents, including processing documents from opposing counsel and third parties, maintaining chain of custody, handling logistics of production, and preparing privilege logs.
  • Maintain case files on firm‑wide dedicated platforms.
  • Under attorney supervision, assist with preparation of statements, declarations and other documents filed with the Court.
  • Prepare briefs and other legal documents for filing, including proofreading, cite checking, compiling exhibits and appendices, formatting documents according to local rules, filing documents, and effectuating service on necessary parties.
  • Perform factual research, including analysis of documents.
  • Conduct general internet research and pull cases from Westlaw as needed.
  • Maintain case calendars and track deadlines; use firm operating systems to record relevant deadlines.
  • Prepare for depositions, conferences and hearings, compiling documents and assisting with logistical details.
  • Provide support for trials, mediations and arbitrations, compiling and tracking relevant exhibits and preparing documents and evidence for courtroom use, and assisting with team logistics.
  • Provide general support across various eDiscovery platforms as needed.
  • Occasionally travel to courthouses and agencies to file, retrieve or deliver paper copies of documents.

Key Skills And Experience
  • Strong academic credentials (B.A required, Paralegal Certificate preferred).
  • Minimum 3‑5 years’ experience as a Litigation Paralegal.
  • Travel and overtime may be necessary.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, iManage and Elite.
  • Knowledge of CS Disco and Milana docketing and calendar management is preferred.
  • Fundamental proficiency in online research and internal resources (Westlaw and equivalents).
  • Ability to navigate electronic databases and document repositories.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organisational and planning skills; strong attention to detail.
  • Substantial experience staging documents and exhibits for attorneys’ review.
  • Experience filing electronically through California State Courts, including familiarity with California Rules of Court.
  • Experience filing electronically through U.S. District Courts using PACER and familiarity with Federal and Local Rules.
  • Strong research, drafting, writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Excellent grammar, spelling, punctuation, form and style.

For California, the expected salary range for this position is between $85,000 and $120,000. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
