Job summary

NW Staffing Resources is seeking a dedicated paralegal/legal assistant to support a boutique plaintiff personal injury law firm in downtown Portland. This full-time, in-office role partners with an experienced trial attorney to manage active cases from intake to resolution and maintain deadlines, bills, liens, and records.

You will build strong client relationships, explain procedures, coordinate with insurance companies, draft summaries and letters, and assist with discovery and trial

Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a paralegal or legal assistant supporting Oregon civil litigation; plaintiff personal injury or civil rights experience is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Oregon and/or Washington court rules, electronic filing systems, and litigation timelines.
  • Strong legal writing, proofreading, organization, and case-management skills.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple priorities while communicating patiently and compassionately with clients.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal case-management software; a four-year degree or paralegal certificate is preferred but not required with relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a lead administrative resource on active files, managing cases from intake through resolution while keeping records, deadlines, bills, liens, and other critical case information organized.
  • Build strong relationships with clients as a primary point of contact, providing updates, gathering information, explaining the process, and helping guide clients through what can be a difficult experience.
  • Communicate with insurance companies and other parties, manage medical and case records, and draft medical summaries, demand letters, correspondence, and other case materials.
  • Support litigation by drafting pleadings, managing discovery, preparing exhibits, coordinating electronic filings, and assisting with trial preparation and proceedings.
  • Proactively monitor cases and collaborate directly with the attorney to identify upcoming deadlines, next steps, and client needs before they become urgent.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the ability to work at a computer for extended periods, including frequent typing, reading, reviewing electronic and paper documents, and communicating by phone and email. The role also requires occasional lifting of files or office supplies up to 20 pounds, along with the ability to move throughout the office to access files, greet clients, attend meetings, and support daily office operations.
