Responsibilities

  • Review complex legal orders, apply state or federal laws, and determine funds attachment eligibility.
  • Process levies, garnishments, temporary restraining notices, and seizure warrants related to debts or crime.
  • Determine eligibility for state or Federal Exemptions and apply exemptions as needed.
  • Initiate payment of funds to agencies or courts as applicable.
  • Create customer notification letters and provide official bank responses to courts or agencies.
  • Communicate with external agencies and law enforcement as needed.
  • Accurately interpret legal documents and manage caseload effectively.
  • Submit timely accurate responses to legal matters and maintain compliance.

Job Description:

This job is responsible for handling moderately complex legal documents; knowledge of a subset of documents necessary to provide thorough responses on behalf of the bank to 3rd parties. Key responsibilities include interpretation, sound judgment, informed decisions, restricting accounts, and compliance with state, federal requirements and privacy laws. Job expectations include maintaining caseload and adherence to production, quality requirements and required deadlines.

Legal Order operations is an area with significant legal and reputational risk that processes third party levies, garnishments, temporary restraining notices, and seizure warrants related to debts or criminal activity, as well as subpoenas served on the bank for both civil and criminal matters.

Responsibilities:
  • Review complex legal orders, apply state or federal laws and determine whether to attach client funds.
  • Attachments processes levies, garnishments, temporary restraining notices, and seizure warrants related to debts or criminal activity.
  • Determine eligibility for state or Federal Exemptions.
  • Initiate payment of funds to agency / court as applicable.
  • Apply Federal Exemptions to allow access to exempt funds.
  • Create customer notification letter for account activity.
  • Provide official bank response to courts or agencies.
  • Contact with agencies including law enforcement as needed.
  • Accurately interprets legal documents.
  • Manages caseload effectively.
  • Submits timely accurate responses to legal matters.
  • Communicates effectively with external third parties.
  • Makes decisions with minimal support.
Required Qualifications:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to comprehend complex legal documents.
  • Ability to manage a high-volume caseload of litigation requests, subpoena responses, and document retrieval assignments while consistently meeting established service-level agreements (SLAs) and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately research, identify, and retrieve responsive documents across multiple banking products, systems, and repositories while maintaining a high level of quality and compliance.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands, manage multiple cases simultaneously, and deliver work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to conduct complex research, evaluate findings, and recommend effective solutions for time-sensitive matters.
  • Ability to comprehend subsequent follow up documents that may impact the status of orders and quickly decision legal documents.
  • Proven ability to adapt to changing priorities, regulatory requirements, and business needs while maintaining productivity in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, identify process improvements, and require minimal supervision.
  • Professional demeanor with a strong client-service focus, demonstrating patience, composure, and professionalism when handling sensitive legal matters and escalations.
