Job summary

Cambridge Public Schools is seeking a Literacy Interventionist for the Cambridge Street Upper School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This one-year appointment supports grade-level teams with targeted literacy instruction and data-driven practice.

The successful candidate will have at least 5 years of ELA/Literacy teaching experience, Massachusetts ELA Elementary Grades license, and a commitment to culturally responsive teaching in an urban school setting. Master’s in reading preferred.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of successful teaching in ELA and Literacy in grades JK-5.
  • Coaching/leadership experience and collaboration with staff and parents.
  • Experience analyzing diverse data sources to inform instruction.
  • Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Assessment System experience helpful.
  • Culturally proficient and skilled in culturally responsive teaching.
  • Familiarity with the English Language Arts and Literacy Framework.
  • Experience in multicultural, urban settings preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Identify student needs and collaborate to address instructional gaps and improve practice.
  • Incorporate multiple assessments to inform instruction and target intervention.
  • Support student learning of grade-level content and standards.
  • Provide data-driven literacy instruction and enrichment opportunities.

The Cambridge Street Upper School is an innovative public middle school in the Cambridge Public School District. We are looking for a dynamic, committed teacher with strong content and pedagogical knowledge, solid classroom management skills, a deep commitment to social justice and anti-racism, and experience working in an urban school setting.

The Opportunity:

The Literacy Interventionist is a school level instructional opportunity, responsible for working with grade level teams, individual teachers and literacy interventionists to support classroom instruction and targeted literacy support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to effectively address those needs and improve instructional practice.
  • Incorporate a variety of assessment strategies in order to inform and modify instruction, as well as target intervention and enrichment needs.
  • Skillfully support and facilitate student learning of grade-level content and standards.
  • Empower a diverse group of learners via compassionate literacy instruction, guided by data.
  • Attend team meetings with colleagues as assigned.
  • Partner with families to include them in each student’s learning and development, guided by a profound understanding of the importance of this connection.
  • Commit to growing as a culturally responsive educator and to engaging in school professional learning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Your Skill Set:

As the incoming Literacy Interventionist, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of successful teaching in ELA and Literacy in grades JK - 5.
  • Proven coaching/leadership capacity and ability to work cooperatively with staff and parents.
  • Experience in analyzing and using a wide variety of data sources.
  • Experience in the Fountas and Pinnell Leveled Literacy Assessment System helpful.
  • Culturally proficient and skilled in culturally responsive teaching.
  • Familiarity with the English Language Arts and Literacy Framework.
  • Experience working in multicultural, urban settings is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree with a major in reading preferred.
  • Massachusetts License: ELA Elementary Grades required. Reading Specialist preferred.
