Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to own the manufacturing processes for cryogenic propellant management components. You will translate engineering requirements into fabrication, welding/brazing, assembly, leak/pressure testing, and inspection plans.

The role requires 5+ years in cryogenic fluids and aerospace hardware, strong DFM/DFA experience, GD&T, and the ability to work across design, quality, and supply chain in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, Physics or related field.
  • 5+ years in cryogenic fluids and mechanical systems or related manufacturing/industrial engineering role.
  • Experience with aerospace systems for flight development/integration/certification.
  • Hands-on with valves, manifolds, regulators, vessels, instrumentation.
  • Experience translating requirements into manufacturable processes (DFM/DFA).
  • Cryogenic Fluid Management techniques and technologies.
  • Clear English work instructions and manufacturing documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Own manufacturing processes for cryogenic hardware under AS9100/ISO 9001.
  • Support design-to-manufacture, process flow, and inspection plans.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for non-conformances.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain for cost reductions.
  • Travel up to 25%.

Job description

  • Support hardware ownership of cryogenic propellant management components through requirements definition, conceptual/detailed design, and verification
  • Work on defined subsystems and components within the Zero-g Propellant Management IPT
  • Support trade studies, component design/integration, first-order analysis, and supplier interface for fluid/gas hardware
  • Track internal and external procurements and hardware dependencies
  • Participate in technical exchange meetings on cryogenic hardware development
  • Support DFM/DFA/DFT reviews and identify manufacturability concerns
  • Translate engineering requirements into fabrication, cleaning, welding/brazing, assembly, leak-testing, and pressure-testing processes
  • Develop and maintain work instructions, process flow diagrams, tool designs, and inspection plans
  • Support root cause analysis, corrective actions, and MRB dispositions for manufacturing non-conformances
  • Evaluate manufacturing methods and recommend improvements
  • Participate in process FMEAs, risk assessments, and validation activities for production tooling and lines
  • Ensure manufacturing processes align with AS9100/ISO 9001 quality and safety standards
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain on efficiency and cost-reduction opportunities
  • Travel up to 25% of the time
Requirements
  • B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Physics, or related technical field
  • 5+ years of experience in cryogenic fluids and mechanical systems/components, and/or in a manufacturing, industrial, or process engineering role
  • Experience supporting the development, integration, or certification of aerospace systems for flight
  • Hands-on experience with solenoid valves, directional valves, manifolds, regulators, pressure vessels, and instrumentation
  • Experience contributing to DFM/DFA input on hardware designs and translating requirements into manufacturing processes
  • Experience with Cryogenic Fluid Management techniques and technologies
  • Experience creating clear, English-language work instructions and manufacturing documentation
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment spanning both design support and shop floor execution
  • Strong verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
  • Preferred: M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
  • Preferred: Human-rated space vehicle experience
  • Preferred: Experience with upper stages, spacecraft, or lunar/deep space hardware
  • Preferred: Exposure to the full life cycle of a propulsion or fluid system
  • Preferred: Experience in high-rate assembly lines for aerospace and/or automotive production
  • Preferred: Specialty commodity/process experience in fluids fabrication, precision machining, welding/brazing, harness fabrication, or composite fabrication
  • Preferred: Working knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis
  • Preferred: Experience with Bill-of-Materials development and BOM reconciliation
  • Preferred: Knowledge of Lean manufacturing practices and principles
  • Preferred: Experience with AS9100 quality standards
  • Preferred: Familiarity with 3D CAD (Creo preferred) and FEA tools (ANSYS preferred)
