Job summary

State Center Community College District is seeking a part‑time Linguistics Instructor for Reedley College. The pool will be used to fill vacancies as they arise, teaching linguistics courses in person, online, or hybrid formats.

Responsibilities include developing syllabi, using diverse teaching methods and technology, and assessing student progress in accordance with course objectives. Collaboration with colleagues and timely reporting are expected.

Qualifications

  • Evidence of responsiveness to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Master’s degree in linguistics or applied linguistics, or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in linguistics plus a Master’s in TESOL, anthropology, psychology, sociology, English, or any foreign language, or a valid California Community College Credential.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience accepted; petition for equivalency.
  • All degrees must match listed qualifications exactly; equivalency may be petitioned.

  • Prepare and distribute course syllabi to students.
  • Maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy.
  • Submit all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
  • Teach assignments in diverse instructional settings and at varied times as needed.
  • Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

This position is part of a continuous recruitment program for part‑time faculty. Candidates will be added to an applicant pool and reviewed when vacancies arise.

Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned part‑time Linguistics courses on a schedule that may include face‑to‑face, online, or hybrid formats.
  • Employ a variety of pedagogical approaches and integrate technology to enhance instruction.
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Either:
    • Master’s degree in linguistics or applied linguistics;
    • Bachelor’s degree in linguistics plus a Master’s in TESOL, anthropology, psychology, sociology, English, or any foreign language;
    • A valid California Community College Credential;
    • The equivalent education and/or experience (requiring an equivalency).
  • All degrees must match the qualifications listed above exactly; alternatively, applicants may petition for equivalency.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into teaching responsibilities.
  • Recent work with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students.
  • Willingness to examine and improve instructional practices to better engage and support racially minoritized students.
  • Professional experience related to community college instruction.
  • Experience working with students from varied cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities.
  • Experience with traditionally under‑represented student populations such as students of color and foster youth.
  • Skill in facilitating multicultural and cross‑cultural communication with sensitivity to diverse backgrounds.
  • Sensitivity to under‑prepared and high‑need community college students.
  • Collaboration with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student success.
  • Proficiency with computers and instructional technologies that support high‑quality instruction.
  • Strong communication skills with students and staff.
  • Understanding of the community college mission and goals.
