Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate degree in Line Technology preferred for advancement.
  • Minimum three years of cumulative line work experience for Apprentice III (more for higher).
  • Valid CDL, safe driving record, and ability to pass DOT physical and screenings.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine work on secondary and primary voltages on energized lines under supervision.
  • Learn to install transformers, reclosers, capacitors, and voltage regulators.
  • Operate and maintain aerial bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other line equipment.
  • Assist in substation and underground distribution system work.
  • Read system maps, specifications, wiring diagrams, and electrical codes.
  • Practice strict safety standards in every task.
  • Support outage restoration efforts in all weather conditions, day or night.

Are you ready to take the next step in your line technician career? Blue Ridge Energy is looking for an Apprentice Line Technician III or higher to join our team in Ashe, North Carolina. This role is part of our structured training and progression program, designed to develop skilled, safety-driven, and knowledgeable line technicians who help us deliver reliable power and outstanding service to our members.

What You'll Do

As an Apprentice Line Technician III or higher, you'll be hands-on in the construction, maintenance, and repair of our electric distribution and transmission system.

What You Bring:

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing routine work on secondary and primary voltages on energized lines under supervision.
  • Learning to install transformers, reclosers, capacitors, and voltage regulators.
  • Operating and maintaining aerial bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other line equipment.
  • Assisting in substation and underground distribution system work.
  • Building confidence in reading system maps, specifications, wiring diagrams, and electrical codes.
  • Practicing and modeling strict safety standards in every task.
  • Supporting outage restoration efforts in all weather conditions, day or night.

What We're Looking For
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate degree in Line Technology preferred for advancement).
  • A minimum of three years of cumulative line work experience for Apprentice III (more for higher classification).
  • Strong knowledge of line work practices, equipment, and safety standards.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all conditions and respond quickly to outage situations.
  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL), safe driving record, D.O.T. physical, and ability to pass all required screenings.
  • Commitment to teamwork, continuous learning, and delivering excellent service to our members.
  • Resides within 30 minutes of the district office location or is willing to relocate at their own expense.
Work Schedule
  • Regular schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
  • Outage and emergency response: required regardless of weather, time of day, or holiday.
