Overview
Job Summary: Work in this class involves the construction, maintenance, and repair of high voltage underground and overhead primary and secondary electric distribution lines. Install and maintain New River Light & Power’s fiber optic network.
Primary Responsibilities
- This position is responsible for working with live high voltage conductors, maintenance of electrical equipment, installation of underground power lines, and the repair of overhead lines and poles.
- Will install and maintain NRLP’s fiber optic network cables.
- Climbing, hand work, digging, heavy lifting, and all weather work is required.
- This position must be able to train and assist less experienced “B” lineworkers with the proper repair of live high and low voltage lines.
- This position must be familiar in the use of various powered equipment and safety techniques including; climbing gear, bucket/digger trucks, excavators, high voltage gloves, and hoses.
Job Requirements
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities that involve the construction, maintenance, and repair of high-voltage underground and overhead primary and secondary electric distribution lines.
- Applies thorough knowledge of all applicable codes and methods of installation and repair.
- Read and interpret schematics drawing and recommend corrective actions.
- Must have the ability to operate University owned vehicles and valid driver’s license.
- Demonstrates journeyman level skills and knowledge, with ability to complete both physical and technical duties.
- Must live or relocate to within approximately 20 minute commute of Boone within 90 days of hire.
- High school graduate.
- Credentials from an Electrical Utility Lineman School Program and 4 years of electrical Lineworker related work experience or 5 years of electrical Lineworker related work experience.
- Holds DoL journeyman credentials.
- Holds CDL Class B license.
