Job summary

American Electric Power in Michigan is seeking a Line Mechanic Apprentice to assist with installation, maintenance, and inspection of transmission and distribution facilities, including overhead and underground lines. You’ll work under supervision, operate line trucks, and follow safety protocols.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, no experience required (line work preferred), a valid state driver's license, and a CDL permit within 60 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• No experience required; line work experience preferred.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
• Must obtain CDL beginner’s permit within 60 days.
• Must pass HireVue Line Worker test and a physical abilities assessment.
• Willingness to pursue required qualifications for higher classifications as directed.

Responsibilities

• Assist with assembly, installation, maintenance, removal and inspection of underground facilities and related equipment.
• Assemble and install Line Material and hardware under supervision; use ropes and rigging as trained.
• Inspect and maintain tools, equipment and work area; manage company vehicles and perform housekeeping duties.
• Safely execute pole top rescue and bucket truck rescue as trained.
• Set and remove barricades, signs and safety equipment; maintain records and reports.
