Job summary

American Electric Power is hiring a Transmission Line Mechanic Apprentice to assist in the installation, maintenance, testing, and inspection of overhead and underground electrical facilities. You will drive line trucks, work under supervision, and learn to handle rope rigging, tool inspection, and safety protocols.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and CDL permit within 60 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• No experience required; line work experience or line school education preferred.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
• CDL beginner’s permit within 60 days.
• Must obtain appropriate licensing as required by law by end of probation unless extended.

Responsibilities

• Assist with assembly, installation, maintenance, removal and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities.
• Inspect, maintain and stock tools, equipment and vehicles; report irregularities.
• Safely perform pole top rescue and bucket truck rescue processes as trained.
• Maintain records and read meters; complete Monthly Apprentice Cards for supervision review.
