Job summary

AEP Service Corporation is seeking a Line Mechanic C to perform installation, maintenance, and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities. Responsibilities include energizing work, testing cables, and coordinating with supervisors for safety and quality outcomes.

The role requires hands-on experience with overhead and underground systems, adherence to tagging procedures, and progression through skill levels from C to A as competency develops.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of one year distribution electrical power line work experience.
• Or one year of related line experience with a one-year electrical power line school certificate and 16 weeks internship or similar experience.
• Must be able to demonstrate and qualify through evaluation to progress to Line Mechanic A.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect overhead and underground facilities including conductors, cables and transformers.
• Work on energized conductors and equipment up to 260 volts under supervision; assist with higher voltages.
• Test, de-energize and ground URD cable and equipment; troubleshoot and repair URD cables and components.
• Use volt meters, amp meters and test equipment up to 600 volts.
• Build and erect equipment mountings and overhead transformer installations.
• Perform proper tagging and switching of energized circuits.
• Direct and supervise helpers as needed.
• Complete Monthly Apprentice Cards for supervisor review.
