Job summary

The American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Line Mechanic at multiple levels to install, maintain and inspect electrical transmission and distribution facilities on overhead and underground systems. The role starts at Level C with progression to higher levels based on experience and performance.

Responsibilities include installing and maintaining conductors, switches, transformers and fault-finding, with supervision transitioning from direct to general as skills grow.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 2 years of work experience as Line Mechanic C or equivalent.
• Valid Class A CDL required.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect conductors, fixtures and other equipment on overhead and underground facilities.
• Assist with energized lines and equipment during first year, progressing to higher supervision levels.
• Perform routine switching, testing and fault-finding to maintain system reliability.
• Direct the work of assistants and participate in safety meetings.
• Comply with all safety and regulatory requirements.
