Job summary

AEP in Athens, Ohio is seeking qualified Line Mechanic C-A to support installation, maintenance and inspection of transmission and distribution facilities. The role requires progressing through multiple levels with supervision and training to handle energized lines up to 600 volts, and to operate testing equipment.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, include CDL, and relevant line work experience or electrical power line schooling with internship.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One year distribution electrical power line work experience or equivalent training.
• Valid Class A CDL required.
• Willingness to relocate within 30 miles of Athens Service Center.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect overhead and underground facilities.
• Test, de-energize, ground URD cable and troubleshoot URD equipment.
• Work on conductors and equipment energized up to 600 volts with appropriate supervision.
• Operate electrical test equipment such as voltmeters and meggers.
• Direct the work of assistants and complete Monthly Apprentice Cards.

Education

High school diploma or GED

Associate degree from electrical power line school (with 16 weeks internship or distribution line experience)

B-200 certification

Journeyman pre-assessment completion (external candidates)
