Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Line Mechanic C to perform installation, maintenance, and inspection of line facilities, including overhead and underground systems. The role progresses through C, B, and A classifications with escalating responsibility and required certifications such as Class A CDL.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required for Line Mechanic C/B/A.
• Line Mechanic C requires related electrical line experience or completion of apprentice lineman training.
• Line Mechanic A requires B-200 certification and journeyman pre-assessment, plus a minimum of 4 years line work for external candidates.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, maintain and inspect overhead and underground facilities.
• Test, de-energize and ground URD cable and troubleshoot URD equipment.
• Replace fuses and operate switching devices energized at any voltage under supervision.
• Build and erect equipment mountings and overhead transformer installations.
• Direct the work of employees assigned to assist.
• Complete Monthly Apprentice Cards for local review.
