Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking qualified candidates for Line Mechanic C-A roles to install, maintain, and inspect transmission and distribution facilities. Candidates progress through classifications (C, B, A) with increasing responsibility, including working with energized equipment up to 600 volts under supervision.

A Class A CDL is required, and a 45-mile relocation window around Columbus, OH is specified.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED (for all Line Mechanic levels).
• Experience: varies by level; includes apprentice lineman training or 4+ years line work for external candidates.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect overhead and underground facilities including conductors, cables, transformers, fixtures and structures.
• Test, de-energize and ground URD cable and troubleshoot, repair and energize URD cable and equipment.
• Use electrical test equipment up to 600 volts and perform switching and tagging of energized circuits.
• Direct the work of assigned personnel and complete Monthly Apprentice Cards for supervisory review.
