Job summary

Appalachian Power in West Virginia is seeking a Line Mechanic A to install, maintain, and repair transmission and distribution facilities. The role covers overhead and underground lines and requires climbing poles and operating equipment under supervision.

You may advance through Line Mechanic D–A progression; a valid CDL is required; residency within 45 minutes of the Charleston service center is required, and a HireVue assessment is part of the process.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED.
• Experience: No experience required; line work experience or line school education is preferred.
• Licenses/Certifications: Valid state driver’s license; CDL beginner permit within 60 days.
• Must reside within 45 minutes of the North Charleston Service Center.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect overhead and underground facilities under supervision.
• Demonstrate ability to perform ground person duties as skill level dictates.
• Operate and climb poles, ladders and structures; work on de-energized conductors and equipment.
• Progress through Line Mechanic D–A: operate company equipment and handle live-line work as trained.
• Direct crew when assigned and assist employees of equal or higher classification.
