Job summary

Independence Village Des Moines is seeking a Line Cook to prepare meals for residents and guests, following menus and recipes. You will work in a collaborative kitchen that values quality, safety, and consistency.

This role requires at least three years of line cook experience or equivalent training, a High School diploma or technical schooling, and strong communication. You will support a team, maintain a clean workstation, and help ensure meals are served on time.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent, or technical schooling.
• Minimum of three years of line cook experience and/or training.
• Good communication skills required.

Responsibilities

• Cook and prepare food for residents, guests, and employees.
• Prepare food according to the planned menu using standard recipes.
• Plate food items following portion guidelines and garnishing instructions.
• Assist other kitchen staff as needed; perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Ensure sufficient food is prepped and/or prepared.
• Communicate shortages or outages to supervisor.
• Ensure freshness, cooking status, and proper seasoning of all foods served.
• Stock and clean station for next shift.
• Follow proper food rotation policies.
• Maintain a positive team attitude and support a collaborative environment.
• Promote positive relations with residents, family members, and guests.
• Maintain safety, sanitation, and security practices.
