Job summary

Firebrand Artisan Breads in Alameda is hiring a Line Cook to support breakfast and brunch service, preparing high-quality items in a fast-paced kitchen. You will work under the Kitchen Team Leader, contributing to safety, consistency, and community-focused cooking.

The role requires basic knife skills, reliability, and the ability to follow recipes. Full-time and part-time shifts are available, with opportunities for growth within lead and management tracks.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Legally authorized to work in the United States
• Consistently punctual and reliable
• Open availability, including weekends and holidays
• Basic knife skills and familiarity with kitchen tools and prep techniques
• Able to follow written recipes and complete prep lists with attention to detail
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen with a small team
• Must obtain a valid California Food Handler Card within 30 days of hire (training cost and time paid by Firebrand)

Responsibilities

• Prepare hot and cold menu items, including sandwiches, soups, salads, and brunch items
• Complete daily prep efficiently (slicing, mixing, labeling, station setup)
• Keep a clean, organized workstation that meets California Health Code and HACCP standards
• Safely operate kitchen equipment such as pizza ovens, slicers, fryers, and mixers
• Maintain proper food storage, FIFO rotation, labeling, and allergen awareness
• Communicate clearly with teammates and supervisors, including using Slack for shift updates, prep lists, and handoffs
• Work as a team during busy service, staying professional and focused under pressure
• Take part in safety, inclusion, and harassment prevention training

Job Details: Job Location: 707 W TOWER AVE SUITE B - ALAMEDA, CA 94501, Salary Range: $18.00 - $24.00 Hourly, Line Cook | Full-Time or Part-Time | Firebrand Café

Pay: $18.00 – $24.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience (non-exempt, overtime eligible). This position may be eligible to participate in the café tip pool under Firebrand's Tip Pooling Policy.

About the Role

Line Cooks support the café's breakfast and brunch service by preparing high-quality food in a fast-paced, collaborative kitchen. You'll be part of a mission-driven team, helping keep our food safe, consistent, and exceptional for the community we serve. This role reports to the Kitchen Team Leader.

What You'll Do

• Prepare hot and cold menu items, including sandwiches, soups, salads, and brunch items, following Firebrand's recipes and portion standards
• Complete daily prep efficiently (slicing, mixing, labeling, station setup) while minimizing waste
• Keep a clean, organized workstation that meets California Health Code and HACCP standards
• Safely operate kitchen equipment such as pizza ovens, slicers, fryers, and mixers, with training and PPE provided
• Maintain proper food storage, FIFO rotation, labeling, and allergen awareness
• Communicate clearly with teammates and supervisors, including using Slack for shift updates, prep lists, and handoffs
• Work as a team during busy service, staying professional and focused under pressure
• Take part in safety, inclusion, and harassment prevention training

Schedule

Full-time and part-time positions available. Open availability is required, including weekends and holidays.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Stand and work on your feet for a full shift (up to 8 hours)
