Job Description

Reports To: Sous Chef, Chef de Cuisine, Executive Chef

General Purpose: Accurately and efficiently cook hot food products as well as prepare and portion food products prior to cooking. Also performs other duties in food and final plate preparation including plating, garnishing cooked items, and preparing garnishes for hot menu plates.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Understand menu and techniques required for proper dish execution.
  • Report to work on time and ready for scheduled shift.
  • Work effectively as part of a team focused on common goals.
  • Bring necessary tools: microplanes, knives, honing steel, tongs, spatula, spoons, etc. (restaurant provides other tools).
  • Taste and season food properly, regardless of dish simplicity.
  • Work with different heat sources and cooking methods.
  • Receive and apply feedback positively, including from colleagues.
  • Use knowledge of proteins, fruits, vegetables, grains, spices, and vinegars.
  • Learn actively through inquiry.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation before, during, and after service.
  • Assist with station setup and pars, aiding in ordering and prep lists for the next day.
  • Identify product quality and freshness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.
Qualifications:
  • Flexible hours including nights and weekends.
  • Responsible, dependable, punctual.
  • Strong communication skills; fluent in English.
  • Clean, professional appearance.
  • Enthusiastic about 21c Museum Hotels.
  • Must pass a background check.

Education/Formal Training: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods.
