Job summary

Cullman Parks, Recreation, & Sports Tourism is seeking a part-time/seasonal kitchen helper to support daily food prep, banquet setup, and plating for events in Cullman, Alabama. The role requires basic culinary experience, knife skills, and strong communication.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • Experience in formal cuisine and short-order cooking.
  • Knife skills and general food preparation knowledge.
  • Strong knowledge of computer and mobile device software applications.
  • Must be legally qualified to pour and serve alcohol in Alabama.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Background check and drug/alcohol screening required.
  • Experience and training in duties consistent with the role.

Responsibilities

  • Executes daily food pre-preparation activities and preheats equipment.
  • Prepares banquet dining and sets up/cleans foodservice line.
  • Plates quality dishes to order efficiently.
  • Maintains ServSafe practices for food safety.
  • Keeps workstation clean; washes dishes and ensures kitchen readiness.
  • Assists with inventory and ordering of food and consumables.
  • Assists with stocking and FIFO rotation of stock.
  • Willing to stand for extended periods and work nights/weekends.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent (preferred). Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form. Experience in formal cuisine and short-order cooking. Knife skills and general food preparation knowledge are required. Strong knowledge of computer and mobile device software applications and skills in applying them. Must be legally qualified in the State of Alabama to pour and serve alcoholic beverages. Possess a valid driver’s license. Must meet Park Board employment and physical standards, which includes a background check as well as drug and alcohol screening. Experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and aptitude to perform the defined duties.

COMPENSATION:

MISSION STATEMENT:

Cullman Parks, Recreation, & Sports Tourismis dedicatedto improving quality of life through exceptional parks, facilities, events, and recreational opportunities for all.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Executes daily food pre-preparation activities and prepares and preheats any needed equipment, ensuring kitchen readiness.
  • Prepares dining banquet for service and parties, leading the foodservice line set-up and/or breakdown.
  • Prepares and plates quality dishes to order efficiently.
  • Knowledgeable in ServSafe practices, assists in maintaining exceptional food safety.
  • Maintains a clean workstation during the shift, washes dishes, and ensures the kitchen is clean, stocked, and ready for reopening at the end of the shift.
  • Helps maintain system-wide inventory related to assigned facilities and assists with ordering process for food and related consumables, as needed.
  • Assists with stocking, restocking, and organizing food and related consumables, maintaining a First In First Out (FIFO) rotation of stock.
  • Ability/willingness to
    • Stand and work for extended periods
    • Cross-train as Food & Beverage Service Staff and fill in as needed
    • Help in other areas as needed
  • Acts as a team member with other Parks and Recreation staff, embracing and supporting the vision and mission of the CPRST Board of Directors and the City of Cullman.
  • Exhibits a high level of professionalism and ethics working amicably with the Park Board, the Executive Director, Administrators, Personnel, and Community.
  • Exhibits proficiency in written and oral communication.
  • Works hours vary, which will likely include nights and weekends, with hours varying based on time of year, events, and projects.
  • Attends all meetings as requested by supervisors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The work area is well lighted, ventilated, and heated. Occasionally work is outdoors where there is a potential to be exposed to various weather conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is performed both inside and outside and requires the physical and mental ability to operate a motor vehicle, commercial kitchen appliances, and computer. Work also requires working around heights, heavy lifting, and the ability to climb, stand, bend, and sit while performing various job duties. Must be able to routinely lift and carry fifty pounds of weight without assistance.
