Job summary

Cullman City Parks & Recreation is seeking a part-time/seasonal food service worker to support kitchen and banquet operations. The role requires strong communication, knife skills, and food prep abilities, with proficiency in common software tools.

Responsibilities include pre-prep, line setup, plating, safety practices, and inventory support. Hours vary and may include nights and weekends; background checks and screenings apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required (preferred).
• Ability to communicate effectively in speech and written form.
• Experience in formal cuisine and short-order cooking.
• Knife skills and general food preparation knowledge; proficiency with computer and mobile device software.
• Must be legally qualified in Alabama to pour and serve alcoholic beverages; valid driver’s license; background check and drug/alcohol screening.

Responsibilities

• Executes daily food pre-preparation activities and preheats equipment.
• Prepares dining banquet service and leads line setup/breakdown.
• Prepares and plates quality dishes to order.
• Maintains ServSafe practices and food safety.
• Keeps workstation clean, stocked, and ready for reopening; aids inventory and FIFO.
• Assists with stocking, restocking, and organizing food and consumables.
• Hours vary including nights and weekends; attends meetings; performs other duties as assigned.

Performance Responsibilities

• Executes daily food pre-preparation activities and prepares and preheats any needed equipment, ensuring kitchen readiness.
• Prepares dining banquet for service and parties, leading the foodservice line set-up and/or breakdown.
• Prepares and plates quality dishes to order efficiently.
• Knowledgeable in ServSafe practices, assists in maintaining exceptional food safety.
• Maintains a clean workstation during the shift, washes dishes, and ensures the kitchen is clean, stocked, and ready for reopening at the end of the shift.
• Helps maintain system-wide inventory related to assigned facilities and assists with ordering process for food and related consumables, as needed.
• Assists with stocking, restocking, and organizing food and related consumables, maintaining a First In First Out (FIFO) rotation of stock.

• Exhibits proficiency in written and oral communication.
• Works hours vary, which will likely include nights and weekends, with hours varying based on time of year, events, and projects.
• Attends all meetings as requested by supervisors.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.
  

Working Environment

The work area is well lighted, ventilated, and heated. Occasionally work is outdoors where there is a potential to be exposed to various weather conditions.

Physical Demands

Work is performed both inside and outside and requires the physical and mental ability to operate a motor vehicle, commercial kitchen appliances, and computer. Work also requires working around heights, heavy lifting, and the ability to climb, stand, bend, and sit while performing various job duties. Must be able to routinely lift and carry fifty pounds of weight without assistance.
