Job summary

Blue Signal Search is seeking a seasoned mechanical engineering professional to play a pivotal role in evolving its portfolio of commercial lighting solutions. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 8+ years mechanical/product engineering experience in commercial lighting.
• Strong understanding of LED fixture construction, thermal management, enclosure design, and performance requirements.
• Experience improving released products, not only new development.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks for 3D modeling and detailed mechanical design.
• Knowledge of GD&T principles.
• Experience designing sheet metal, extrusions, castings, plastics, welded assemblies.
• Familiarity with lighting control integration (wired/wireless).
• Understanding of compliance, testing, certification, and documentation best practices.
• Excellent technical communication and cross-functional collaboration.
• Leadership potential to mentor others and grow into expanded responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering efforts supporting an established portfolio of commercial lighting products through CI initiatives.
• Drive product enhancements, cost optimization, components updates, manufacturability improvements, and lifecycle support.
• Evaluate existing designs to improve reliability, performance, serviceability, and production efficiency.
• Collaborate with new product development teams to ensure successful transition from design to manufacturing.
• Develop and maintain detailed engineering documentation, CAD models, drawings, bills of materials, and specifications.
• Partner with manufacturing and quality teams to improve production methods, assembly processes, and product consistency.
• Provide technical guidance to customer support, sales, purchasing, and operations regarding product applications and order feasibility.
• Support integration of commercial lighting control technologies into existing platforms.
• Assist with product validation, certification testing, and engineering change management.
• Research emerging technologies, materials, and manufacturing methods to enhance future offerings.
• Participate in supplier collaboration and cross-functional engineering reviews.

Skill Set

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or closely related engineering discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Approximately eight or more years of mechanical or product engineering experience within the commercial lighting industry.
• Strong understanding of LED fixture construction, thermal management, enclosure design, and commercial lighting performance requirements.
• Experience supporting released products through engineering improvements rather than exclusively new product development.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks for three-dimensional modeling and detailed mechanical design.
• Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principles.
• Experience designing components utilizing sheet metal, extrusions, castings, plastics, welded assemblies, and related manufacturing processes.
• Familiarity with commercial lighting control integration and common wired or wireless control technologies.
• Understanding of product compliance, testing, certification requirements, and engineering documentation best practices.
• Excellent technical communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and customer-facing teams.
• Leadership potential with the desire to mentor others and grow into expanded engineering responsibilities over time is highly valued.
